Charlie and the Chocolate Factory open auditions May 28!

The Upstage Players Board is hosting auditions for its 2024 summer community theatre production, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Auditions will be held in the auditorium at the Upsala High School on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 6 P.M. Actors are allowed to leave after their audition instead of remaining the entire time, but plan to arrive with enough time to fill out the audition form. If you had been planning to audition, but can’t make that audition date work, please email Melanie at mcimenski@isd485.org to see if something can be worked out. The play offers roles for a wide variety of ages, from elementary to middle/high school to the very wise. This musical is the perfect chance for families to be involved in something that brings them together this summer! In order to be considered for a role, actors must be able to be present for all performances.

Auditioning actors 1) will be taught a short section of choreography to dance two to four times in a group, 2) will perform a thirty-second segment of a song from the show, and 3) will dramatically interpret one of the one-minute monologues available on the Upstage Players website. It is not required for the monologue to be memorized.

This summer, when Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hits the stage, audiences will be delighted by the whimsical and imaginative exploration of childhood dreams, morality, and the power of imagination. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory follows the adventures of a young boy named Charlie Bucket who wins a golden ticket to visit Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory. Along with four other children, Charlie experiences the wonders and dangers of Wonka's factory, encountering magical candies, eccentric Oompa-Loompas, and a host of inventive confections. After going through a series of misadventures, will Charlie emerge as the sole winner of some unknown grand prize, proving himself to be honest, kind-hearted, and deserving of the ultimate prize? Find out in Upstage’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Rehearsals are Sunday from 3-5:30 p.m., and Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Upsala High School. A tentative rehearsal schedule is available at upstageplayers.org. This schedule is subject to shift (minimally) due to actor availability.
